Has anyone else ever noticed this?

When you look at 3-series rivals, or even the 3-series itself, it's competitor's styling is pretty conservative. That is until you look at it's Japanese rivals.

For example, here's the A4, 3-Series, ATS, and C-Class.

While they're all attractive, their styling is rather conservative (except for maybe the Benz)

Then here's the IS, and Q50.

Their styling is definitely more risky and polarizing. I know some people who like how they look, and some who think their revolting (especially the IS).

I for one, like the Japanese offerings because of their risky not-for-everyone styling. I especially like the Q50.

I just realized the Acura and Buick are both sold with the same idea really.

Take a car from Europe (Accord and Insignia)

Slap some near-luxury badges on a high trim-level version

Sell to Americans as a near-luxury car

I'm all for styling. But I don't want to have a mini heart attack every time I open the garage door.

It's interesting that you would say the ATS is conservative because right off the bat I'd argue that point. Then I look at the picture and realize it's not just a small CTS. I'm curious why Cadillac tried to play it so safe with the ATS sedan and coupe when pretty much ever generation and trim of CTS has been aggressive and polarizing.

Don't get me wrong, I like the TSX. But not when I compare it to most of its competitors.

Yeah the first CTS was so polarizing I hated it at first and it grew on me over time. I really enjoyed the second gen, especially having three different very distinct body styles to choose from. I love the third gen in just a naturally less gimmicky way. I like the ATS in both coupe and sedan but it is very subtle. I hope the V trim or a wagon if they make one pushes the limits at least a little.

Ehhh, the Lincoln mostly just shares underpinnings with the Fusion. The Buick and Acura are lirerally the exact same cars with different badges.

But I could argue that in the full Lincoln line up and each car is clearly rebodied Ford. C is an escape, Z is a fusion, S is a Taurus, T is an Explorer, the biggest offender has to be the X or the Navigator.

Their new logo could be: "Lincoln, the new Mercury!"

The T is such a screwed up design I would rather purchase an Explorer than that cluster. It's hard to believe the same people penned the C which I think looks fantastic!
